Dinobase game

Dinobase game was conceived as part of the project "Digital Assistive Technologies: innovation and accessibility in digital games for people with special needs", coordinated by the Dr. Regina C. L. Hostins and received support from FAPESC - Foundation for the Support of Research and Innovation in the State of Santa Catarina.

Dinobase is an educational digital game developed under the universal design paradigm, aligned with the concept of assistive technology. It addresses the area of mathematics, more specifically the potentiation. Designed to be a tool to support teaching in a playful way, the game allows the participation of one to four players alternating in turns.

Its name DinoBase persue to combine characters linked to the playful universe of children's movies and cartoons, such as the Age of Dinosaurs, with the idea of appropriating concepts of numerical "base" to solve the game. The concept of movement and transformation of the potentiation concept in the game process is evident in the figures that change shape, color, size and change from the egg to the child dinosaur, from this to the young and then to the adult.

The game allows the participation of 1 to 4 players whose age group is not restricted. However, it is more suitable for children between 6 and 10 years old, in the process of mathematical literacy. In the 1 player version, the child will play against a virtual opponent that fits the player's cognitive skills, promoting greater engagement.

How to play

In the digital game Dinobase, the goal is to conquer the Adult Dinosaur through item purchases and exchanges using potentiation operations, specifically from 3 base.

The game depends on reasoning and a little luck, since the number of items that can be obtained in each turn depends on a lottery. The items that make up the game are: egg (30), baby dinosaur (31), young dinosaur (32) and adult dinosaur (33).

The game starts by selecting the number of players: 1, 2, 3 or 4. Each player gives his name and selects an avatar. If the game is against the virtual opponent, a drawn will be made to determine who starts.

Each player on his turn clicks an egg-shaped button that draw lots a random number between 1 and 6. With the value obtained, the player purchases the items. Items with values greater than 6 can only be obtained through exchanges, carried out by selecting items from the inventory so that the sum of the cost of these selected elements (in units) reaches the cost of the desired element. This way the player accumulates elements each turn until he can exchange them for the adult dinosaur.

The winner is the one who first conquers the adult dinosaur.
